Safety is a shared responsibility

Safety rules

The safety rules govern behaviour at the range, firearm handling and the mandatory following of staff instructions.

Valid from: 23 September 2026.

Mandatory rules at the range

  1. Follow the instructions of authorised staff, area markings and commands to stop activity. If a rule is unclear, stop what you are doing and ask for an explanation.

  2. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction and keep your finger off the trigger until you have decided to shoot at the target safely.

  3. Handle firearms only in the designated place and only when permitted or instructed.

  4. Use the appropriate firearm, ammunition and target in accordance with staff instructions. Do not handle another person's firearm, ammunition or equipment without clear permission.

  5. Use the prescribed protective equipment. Do not handle firearms under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medication or any other condition that may reduce attention, judgement or control.

  6. On the cease-fire command, stop immediately, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, take your finger off the trigger and wait for further instructions.

Incidents and breaches of the rules

Report any injury, malfunction, dangerous situation or observed breach of the rules immediately. In the event of a breach, staff may stop the activity and remove a participant from the shooting area.

Compliance with regulations

These rules supplement, and do not replace, obligations under applicable regulations on firearms, ammunition and safety. A stricter instruction from staff or regulations takes precedence.

The safety rules govern behaviour at the range, firearm handling and the mandatory following of staff instructions.
